Weekend events in the Chattanooga area include psychedelic film screening, farmers markets, margarita festival

This weekend's events include a psychedelic film screening, farmers markets and a margarita festival. Here's a chronology.

ARTS

— The Arts Center, 320 N. White St., Athens, Tenn., continues its exhibition of "The Magic of Watercolor" through Aug. 14. The exhibition features water media artworks by artists with the Eastern Tennessee chapters of the Tennessee Watercolor Society. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The center is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Learn more at athensartscouncil.org.

— Association for Visual Arts, 30 Frazier Ave., Suite A, is hosting its juried member exhibition through Sept. 8. The gallery is open noon-5 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and noon-6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. All works featured were judged and scored by three regional arts professionals. The works were scored based on technique, creativity, design, visual impact and professional presentation. Out of 87 local artists, 30 were selected for the exhibition. The works represent a variety of mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, textile and mosaic. Learn more at avarts.org.

— In-Town Gallery will host an opening reception for its latest exhibition, "Creating Waves With Wax," from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 26A Frazier Ave. The exhibition features the encaustic paintings of Margaret Park. Encaustic is an ancient artistic medium made from beeswax and damar resin, which are melted together, receive added pigment for color and are applied to a surface such as wood while still hot. Park will provide a demonstration of the medium at the opening. The exhibition will run through Aug. 31. Learn more at intowngallery.com.

— ClearStory Arts will have the opening reception for its two-year anniversary artwork exhibition from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 1673 S. Holtzclaw Ave. The exhibition will celebrate the two-year anniversary of ClearyStory by showcasing the works of the gallery's studio and workspace artists. The reception will be in conjunction with the gallery's First Friday event, which features a mini-market and live demonstrations. The anniversary exhibition will run through Aug. 26. MUSIC

— Songbirds, 35 Station St., will have two shows this weekend. At 7 p.m. Thursday, singer-songwriters Drumming Bird and Andrew Montana will perform; tickets cost $12 in advance or $18 the day of the show. At 7 p.m. Sunday, Albert Castiglia and Gary Hoey will perform as a part of the Blood Brothers summer tour; tickets cost $25 in advance or $28 the day of the show. — Nightfall, a weekly summer music series, continues at 7 p.m. Friday at Miller Plaza, 850 Market St. The headliner will be Victor Wainwright & the Train, and the opener will be Luke Simmons & the Lovestruck. — Off the Rails, a free concert series, continues this week at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Burr Performing Arts Park, 101 S. Hamilton St., Dalton, Ga. This week's performance features The Core, as well as Live Out Loud and Kelsi Westfall. Learn more at visitdaltonga.com.

— Barrelhouse Ballroom, 1501 Long St., will host the inaugural Jerry Fest from 3 p.m.-midnight Saturday. The festival will celebrate the music of Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead and feature six bands performing music from Garcia's entire career. There will also be vendors selling a variety of goods, including hemp products, clothes, jewelry, artwork and more. Tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 the day of the show. — Riverfront Nights, a weekly concert series, continues this week at 6 p.m. Saturday at Ross's Landing, 201 Riverfront Parkway. Concessions and drink sales begin at 6 p.m. The music performances will begin at 7 p.m. This week's featured performers are Jess Goggans Band and Departure: A Tribute to Journey. OUT & ABOUT

— Tennessee's Sales Tax Holiday on groceries began Tuesday and will continue through Oct. 31. The holiday exempts food and food ingredients from the state's standard sales tax. The holiday covers most groceries but does not apply to prepared foods, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, candy or dietary supplements. Learn more at tn.gov/revenue/taxes.

— World's Longest Yard Sale begins Thursday and goes through Sunday. The sale spans six states and stretches nearly 700 miles long. Beginning in Addison, Michigan, and ending in Gadsden, Alabama, the sale goes through the Chattanooga area with a variety of vendors in the city, Signal Mountain, Dunlap and Pikeville. — Gaining Ground Grocery will have a live food demonstration and tasting from 2-4 p.m. Thursday at the store, 1918 Union Ave. The event will feature Chef Diane Hoch of The Food Evolution, who will create and serve free samples of healthy dishes made from local, fresh and seasonal ingredients. — Stable 41 Farmers Market will have two events this weekend. From 3-6 p.m. Thursday, the market's theme will be "What's Bugging Your Garden?" with live music performed by Josh Gilbert. From 1-4 p.m. Sunday, the market will celebrate National Farmers Market Week. Both markets will take place at the Stable 41 Pavilion, 214 First St., Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. — Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will offer free admission to Point Park, 110 Point Park Road, on Friday in recognition of the Great American Outdoors Act. The park is open 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Learn more at nps.gov/chch.

— Rossville/Blvd Open Air Market will have a children's festival from 6-8 p.m. Friday at 207 Chickamauga Ave., Rossville, Ga. The festival, a collaboration of the Blvd Project and Rossville Downtown Development Authority, will be child-focused with activities such as a magic show and sandcastle station. — Chattanooga Remote Control Club will host an RC Airshow from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Summit Airfield, 4246 Old Woodland Drive. RC hobbyists and pilots will perform stunts and demonstrations with a variety of remote control planes, drones and helicopters. There will be food and small business vendors at the show. — Lula Lake Land Trust will have its Open Gate Days from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at its core preserve, 5000 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, Ga. Hike the trails of the preserve and take in the natural scenery of the land and waterfall. The preserve offers multiple trails of various difficulties providing new or experienced hikers with options for their experience. Spots and arrival times are limited. Admission is $16. — Chattanooga Zoo is inviting guests to dress up in royal or buccaneer attire for Pirates, Parrots & Princesses, a family-friendly event from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the zoo, 301 N. Holtzclaw Ave. Featured activities include a treasure hunt, meetups with parrots and "dragons" and themed enrichment for the animals. Favorite pirate, prince and princess characters will be in attendance through Magic Lamp Entertainment. The event is free to attend with purchase of regular zoo admission — $9.95-$14.95 online. — Hamilton County Schools will host a Back to School Bash from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Tennessee Riverpark, 4301 Amnicola Highway. To celebrate and kick off the new school year, the bash will feature learning activities and resources with educators and community partners, an interactive art exhibit, face painting, health screenings, food trucks and more. — Quickie's Vintage Market will be from noon-6 p.m. Saturday at QuickStrike, 7601 E. Brainerd Road. The market will feature more than 20 vendors selling vintage items, food trucks and a live DJ. — Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors will have a land and sea movie screening starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Warner Park pool, 1105 McCallie Ave. The screening will be of "Jaws," the Steven Spielberg classic about a town terrorized by a killer shark. The evening will begin with swimming in the pool from 6-8 p.m., and the movie will begin in the park at dusk. — Chattanooga Margarita Festival will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the First Horizon Pavilion, 1801 Reggie White Blvd. Chattanooga restaurants will compete for the title of Best Margarita. Activities include a sampling of 12 mini-margaritas, live entertainment, photo booth and food vendors. Tickets cost $49, and the proceeds will support the Chattanooga Market. — Chattanooga Market will celebrate National Farmers Market Week from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the First Horizon Pavilion, 1801 Reggie White Blvd. Shop a variety of locally sourced and produced goods from farms, arts and craft vendors and food vendors. — Blood Assurance will present "Songwriters in the Round" at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Colonnade, 264 Catoosa Circle, Ringgold, Ga. The inaugural charity event will feature songwriters Keith Follese, Adriene Follese, Ryan Follese and Brain White. They will perform and share stories behind their songs. The event will begin with a dinner followed by the concert, and VIP guests will be able to participate in a meet and greet with the songwriters prior to the event. Tickets cost $100; VIP tickets cost $150. Proceeds will benefit the Blood Assurance high school grant program, which provides additional funding for schools. — Morning Pointe Foundation will host Seniors Got Talent at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Silverdale Center Creekside Theatre, 7236 Bonny Oaks Drive. The variety show will feature performers ranging in age from 64 to 88 showcasing their talents such as line dancing, tap dancing, singing and more. The winning act will receive a grand prize of $500, and attendees will be able to pay $1 per vote for the People's Choice Award. Tickets cost $10. Proceeds will benefit the Morning Pointe Foundation. SPORTS

— Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball will have games at noon and 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the 6th Cavalry Museum, 6 Barnhardt Circle, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. The Lightfoot and Mountain City clubs of Chattanooga will face off against the Franklin Farriers. — Chattanooga Football Club will take on the Savannah Clovers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Finley Stadium, 1826 Reggie White Blvd. General admission tickets start at $11. Learn more at chattanoogafc.com.

THEATER

— Everything is Terrible!, a video and performance art collective, will have a screening of its latest work from 7-10 p.m. Thursday at Stove Works, 1250 E. 13th St. The collective's latest, "Kidz Klub!," is a psychedelic found footage feature film. In addition to the film screening, there will be songs, dancing and life-size puppets. Tickets cost $15 and are required. Learn more at stoveworks.org.

— Chattanooga Theatre Centre, 400 River St., will conclude its production of "Something Rotten" this weekend with performances at 7 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The play follows two brothers in the 16th century as they set out to write the world's first musical to get out of their contemporary William Shakespeare's shadow. It is appropriate for ages 13 and older. Tickets cost $25-$30. Learn more at theatrecentre.com.

— Obvious Dad will conclude its summer season with a production of "Lear," a reimagining of Shakespeare's "King Lear" by Young Jean Lee, starting this weekend with performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine St. The show is appropriate for ages 16 and older and will run through Aug. 20.
